EditorialAs someone who is a massive fan of the idea of space flight (who isn’t!?) I’ve always wanted to be able to take command of a space shuttle in a flight simulator. Whilst it’ll be some time yet until we are able to jet off beyond the atmosphere and into the world’s beyond our own in a Microsoft Flight Simulator game, the fact that you can fly around the world in a space shuttle is one of the most enjoyable features I’ve ever have the pleasure of using when enjoying a flight simulation experiment.Flying planes and helicopters is outstandingly fun, but being able to jump into a space shuttle? It’s like a whole new experience! This download really impressed me for the completely re-worked design features; they are truly outstanding looking, and give you all the help that you need in really believing the story that you are being sold. The little details stand out and blend together to make a really engrossing experience – if you’ve ever wanted what it would be like to fly a space shuttle, I would imagine this is about as close as many of us are going to get this side of a career with NASA!The dynamics of the shuttle are absolutely brilliant, too, giving you the chance to actually reach a sub-orbital level – it can go as high as 700,000ft which is truly staggering when you consider what you would usually be able to reach. The re-entry dynamics are something that are really worth seeing, too! It’s like a second kind of flying altogether, and will be an excellent push for any veterans out there who want to experience something really new.You might be someone who enjoys flying the old classics instead of the more modern super jets that we have, but this feels like the very pinnacle of anything I’ve had to use in terms of raw potential.
This is a truly insane experience, especially for someone who is a pretty big space geek! I just love being able to shoot off into the skies and see something that no other aircraft I’ve really used was capable of offering, not at this level of realism. All of the little things like the shuttles bay that includes so many cool little things are well worth seeing, too. The design elements of the Atlantis are pretty amazing and can keep you more than satisfied if you just want to see what the level of detail could be if space shuttles were a more common part of the FSX experience.
As the capabilities of the simulators get stronger and the approach towards using things like spacecraft’s become more commonplace, I really cannot wait to see what is able to be produced! However, a far as using a space shuttle goes this is arguably the most fun I have had. It’s new features that are totally exclusive here can help you get an entirely different flying experience from the one that you are used to.
